The Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0
What is Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0?
Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 (TSS 3.0) is the latest version of Toyota’s advanced safety features, offering significant upgrades. It includes a higher resolution, wide-angle front-facing camera, which enhances emergency braking and collision alert. Some TSS 3.0-equipped vehicles now support over-the-air (OTA) updates, eliminating the need for dealership visits for software improvement.
What Features are Included in Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0
TSS 3.0 features seven advanced safety technologies to reduce stress and fatigue, boosting driver confidence and safety. These enhancements help prevent accidents and improve the overall driving experience.
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
Pre-Collision System (PCS) uses front-facing cameras to detect pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, and stationary objects, alerting you with audio-visual cues if a collision is imminent. If you can't react in time, PCS engages the brakes to stop the vehicle. In TSS 3.0, the upgraded camera offers a wider view for better intersection support and can now detect motorcycles in addition to bikes and vehicles.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
LDA detects lane departures above 30 mph on clearly marked roads. It alerts you with audio-visual cues if you drift without signaling and gently steers you back if you don't respond. The updated system now detects various dividers, like guardrails, in addition to painted lane markings.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Toyota’s adaptive cruise control uses cameras and sensors to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead when cruising above 20 mph. The latest version offers four following distance settings (up from three) and an upgraded detection system for smoother speed adjustments.
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
LTA keeps your vehicle centered by detecting lane markings and the path of the vehicle ahead, providing steering inputs when DRCC is activated. The upgraded LTA now offers three new features: steering adjustments for more space when passing objects, the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) for driver attentiveness, and the ability to stop the vehicle if the driver is unresponsive.
Road Sign Assist (RSA)
RSA enhances awareness by using a front-facing camera to detect speed limits, yield, stop, and do not enter signs, displaying icons on the Multi-Information Display. The updated RSA system now detects additional signs, including pedestrian crossing signs.
Automatic High Beams (AHB)
The AHB system improves visibility for all drivers by automatically toggling between high and low beams based on traffic conditions, ensuring safe travel without causing glare for others. There are no notable upgrades for AHB in version 3.0.
Proactive Driving Assist (PDA)
Proactive Driving Assist, available on some 2024 and later models, helps manage speed and braking on curves and uses vehicle-to-vehicle detection and a front-facing camera to maintain safe distances from other vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. It offers gentle steering and braking assistance to prevent or mitigate accidents.
- Obstacle Anticipation Assist:Detects parked vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists on or crossing the road.
- Deceleration Assist: Provides gentle braking to reduce speed when detecting vehicles, motorcycles, or upcoming curves.
- Steering Assist: Adjusts power steering to help the driver stay within the lane by detecting road lines.
